Sophocles :

Oedipus the King:

Sophocles wrote over 120 plays. However his most famous one was the Oedipus the King.

He was born in  497 or 496 BCE. He died in 406 BCE, meaning he lived for 90 yrs (very old for his time).

Oedipus, in Greek mythology, the king of Thebes who unwittingly killed his father and married his mother. Homer related that Oedipus's wife and mother hanged herself when the truth of their relationship became known, though Oedipus apparently continued to rule at Thebes until his death.

The moral of this story is that no one can control their own destiny, only gods can do that. Filled with overweening pride and vanity, Oedipus foolishly believes that he can defy fate and, by extension, the gods and he comes to grief as a result. Oedipus's hubris is a function of his role as king.

Antigone:

Ancient Greek poet Sophocles' "Antigone," part of his Theban plays trilogy, is one of the most performed and studied plays in the world. It has inspired countless adaptations and reimagining, from plays to novels to films, across different cultures and eras.

With Antigone Sophocles forcibly demonstrates that the power of tragedy derives not from the conflict between right and wrong but from the confrontation between right and right.
